Mechanical Depth

For the depth of my analysis of the mechanical system of AMIC I will switch out the current air handling units and replace them with a geothermal system.  This system will then be analyzed and modeled to quantify the substantial reduction in annual energy use.  This model will be created in Trane Trace 700 and will be compared to the energy model generated for Tech Report 2.

After creating the model, I will analyze both model’s energy consumption, water consumption, and annual cost analysis.  In addition to this I will consider the initial cost of the system and effectiveness of heating and cooling the building.  I will also consider the fact that the geothermal wells can be tied into the buildings existing radiant systems for heating.  All of these factors will be considered and compared to determine which system is the most efficient and plausible option for AMIC.

Electrical Breadth

After considering the options, I believe that by an addition of a wind turbine on AMIC’s site, there would be a huge
reduction in annual energy consumption.  This cost difference in energy consumption would out way the initial cost of the wind turbine.  An energy model would be created to analyze the total amount of energy generated by the wind turbine compare it to AMIC’s total energy consumption.  Along with analyzing the initial costs and any cost savings.  This would then be compared to the initial design.  After analyzing both before and after the wind turbine I would decide if it is the best most effective option to have a wind turbine on site to reduce the total energy consumption of AMIC.

Acoustic Breadth

For my second breadth, I propose to redesign the acoustic base of the existing roof top units.  I would analyze the
initial sound problems and propose a solution.  I would analyze both noise and vibration concerns and compare the initial design to the new design.  Then the costs of both systems would be analyzed and compared to determine which is a more effective and affordable option for AMIC.
